Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson has outlined what will happen next as his Assisted Dying Bill made it past the second reading stage last week.
It was voted through to the clauses stage, 17 to 7 in the House of Keys, representing a 70% majority.
Although a major step there is still a long way for the bill to go before receiving royal ascent and seeing the legislation formally introduced.
