Speeder fined after being clocked double the limit

A Ramsey man who was caught travelling at more than double the speed limit outside a school has been fined.

Police stopped 57-year-old Peter Corkill on Lezayre Road at 9.06am on May 9th - he was travelling at 42mph in the 20 zone.

He later pleaded guilty to speeding - at Douglas Courthouse this week the delivery driver apologised for his actions saying he didn't see the signs.

The 20mph temporary limit is imposed on the road during school hours in a bid to keep children and parents safe.

Corkill told the court he was likely to lose his job if he was disqualified from driving and adding that he 'very rarely' took that route.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined him £230 and ordered him to pay costs of £50 - she also added five penalty points to his licence telling him "keep an eye on the speed limit".
