The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says the number of children registered as being homeschooled rose by just over three per cent last year.
A Freedom of Information request asked for the number of registered homeschooled youngsters and safeguarding measures for them.
In its response, the department said at the start of the last academic year, there were 244 registered pupils compared to 236 the year before.
And it added the new Education Amendment Bill currently being considered by the House of Keys would introduce stronger safeguarding.
