Updated: School children accused of 'swinging' cat by tail

School children in Onchan have been reported after claims they were caught swinging a cat by its tail.

Details of an alleged incident in the Bemahague area were shared on Facebook earlier this week by the mother of a girl who says she witnessed the cat being taunted.

She's warning people in the area, near the Lhone Dhoo entrance, who have a small tortoiseshell moggy to be on their guard.

According to her post the incident was reported to the school - she also says it will be reported to the police.

Update: The Department of Education and Children says the students involved in the alleged incident were identified and spoken to – they claimed they were ‘petting’ the cat but accepted their actions were ‘misconstrued’.

It says Bemahague School is ‘disappointed’ by some of the comments generated on Facebook as the school ‘always instils into students the need to be respectful of their environment’.
