Fire safety in flats is a concern.
That's the view of the Island's Fire Service, following recent inspections of local flats, in which 38% of those looked at, failed their initial inspection.
Now, the service is hoping to raise awareness of the dangers of poor fire safety in properties, alongside the requirments on landlords to make sure people living in them are safe.
It also comes following a flat owner recently being fined £9,000 for failing to comply with fire regulations.
Head of the IOMFRS Flats Team, Gareth Gawne, says they're 'concerned at the number of flats they’re inspecting that are non-compliant.'
He adds the team are 'seeing major issues which could prevent occupants from escaping in the event of a fire and are working hard to ensure these issues are tackled and people remain safe in their homes.’
Anyone with queries can contact the team directly on 647300 for advice and support.
