Ryan Farquhar retires from road racing

Ryan Farquhar

Ryan Farquhar has confirmed his retirement from road racing with immediate effect.

A legend on the TT course and one of Northern Ireland’s most decorated road racers he lost his uncle, Trevor Ferguson, in Wednesday’s MGP SuperTwin race.

He was due to compete today but has said he is no longer willing to take the risks involved after witnessing the devastating effects that the fatal accident has had on his uncle’s wife and three children.

Speaking to Irish newspaper 'The Newsletter' he said 'It’s the people who are left behind who suffer the most'.

Farquhar was just one win away from reaching the landmark of 200 race wins.

This year, he’d triumphed in both the inaugural SuperTwin races at the North West 200 and the TT in June, he was also victorious at the Ulster Grand Prix earlier this month.
