Road rage man fined £500 after 'charging' at vehicle

Douglas Courthouse

An abusive drunk who 'threatened' a female motorist after blocking her path has been told his behaviour was "totally unacceptable".

26-year-old James Kelly was in the middle of the road on Church Road Marina in Douglas on July 25th last year when the driver came round the corner.

She beeped the horn to alert him of her presence and then stopped - Kelly then came "charging" at the vehicle, before punching the door and shouting and swearing at the woman.

At Douglas Courthouse this week the Laxey man pleaded guilty to a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

His advocate told the court the "evil drink" was at the root of the incident saying Kelly had "little recollection" of his actions and was "mortified" to be before the court.

Magistrates fined him £500 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50 telling him "being drunk is no excuse".
