Review of prescriptions to go before COMIN

The Department of Health has confirmed it will be submitting a review of the prescriptions service to the Council of Ministers.

In the House of Keys yesterday (Tuesday) the Health Minister was quizzed on his plans to introduce changes to prescription charges and criteria by East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell.

David Anderson said it was no secret that his department had been examining the issue and had reviewed eligibility criteria for both prescriptions and dental charges.

He said the review was at an advanced stage and it would be inappropriate for him to provide any further details as it was going before the Council of Ministers for approval in the near future.

However Mr Anderson confirmed there were no plans to abandon prescription charges, as suggested by Mrs Cannell, and said it was alarming to hear her suggest spending more money instead of saving.
