Review into remote learning during lockdown published

A review of how the Island provided remote learning for students during the Covid lockdown has been published.

Carried out by the Education Service between July and September this year, ten recommendations have been made to make a consistent set of standards should schools have to close their doors again during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

They cover areas such as consistency, quality and volume of lessons; access to internet and devices at home; extra support for pupils in examination years and training for school staff as well as guidance for parents.

During its review, the Education Service listened to feedback from pupils, parents and school staff and examined all relevant learning data before publishing their findings.

Education, Sport & Culture Minister, Dr Alex Allinson MHK, says: "I fully endorse the recommendations that can help all of us involved in education to build resilience and confidence in our service and ensure our young people can achieve their potential.

"We had to adapt quickly to an unprecedented situation in March, and we must learn from this so that we are better prepared should a further lockdown materialise.

"I would like to thank all those teachers who have contributed to this important review."

All schools on Island were ordered to close on March 23, except for 14 education hubs which were kept open for children classed as vulnerable or whose parents were key workers - all pupils were able to head back to classrooms on June 22.

Meanwhile, the report found schools on Manx shores adapted quickly to suddenly shutting and used a range of platforms and resources to deliver education.
