Residents warned of yellow weather warning

Poor weather looks set to hit the Island today - with snow and ice on higher roads and gale force winds affecting ferry crossings.

Yesterday Ronaldsway Met Office issued a yellow warning over wintry showers which could see snow over hills.

The Steam Packet Company has cancelled today's sailings to and from Heysham - there'll be a further update at 5pm regarding this evening's sailing which is under threat from winds of up to 55mph.

The Department of Infrastructure is bracing itself for the wintry conditions - gritters will be out treating the Island's roads due to the threat of hail, snow and freezing temperatures over the next few days.

They'll prioritise main roads that carry the heaviest traffic as well as key bus routes and roads to hospitals, fire stations and schools.

But the public's also being encouraged to grit driveways and footpaths outside their own properties with free grit available from salt bins and civic amenity sites.
