Relay for Life to mark Island's fight against cancer

Cancer survivors and fundraisers will join forces this weekend in a bid to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.
 
The seventh Relay for Life is taking place at the NSC in Douglas - it will see more than 50 teams take part in a walking relay over 24 hours. 
 
Proceedings will begin with a lap of honour for survivors of the disease - this will be followed by the relay, family entertainment and a Candle of Hope ceremony at dusk. 
 
The organising committee was awarded a special commendation from Cancer Research UK in the Flame of Hope awards which recognise outstanding volunteering efforts. 
 
Last year the Isle of Man ranked second out of all the Relay events in the UK in terms of fundraising income by raising more than £123,000:
