Commissioners in Ramsey are looking to expand the borders of the town.
The local authority has been in talks with the parishes of Garff and Lezayre over potentially extended the boundaries of the northern town which have been in place since 1992.
Any application to do so would require a public inquiry held by an independent chair before any order can be made by the Department of Infrastructure for Tynwald to consider.
Chair of Ramsey Town Commissioners, Andy Cowie, says: "Due to Ramsey’s popularity and consequent rapid expansion in recent years, with five major housing developments approaching completion, the amount of land available for new development is diminishing.
"The town has to look ahead to where development can take place to provide employment and homes to support our thriving town."
Mr Cowie adds a public consultation with residents will be held as part of the process for people to put forward their views.
