Promenade to Get First Major Refurbishment Work in 70 Years
The Department of Infrastructure is preparing an Issues and Options document, designed to gauge public opinion on what they’d like to see done to the Douglas promenade.
The last major reconstruction of the promenade took place in the 30s, with the sea wall now nearing the end of its serviceable life.
Aswell as visual improvement there would also be a major highway improvement scheme carried out on the road, which is currently cracked and uneven.
The works would come at a major cost to Government and may only get the green light once the economic conditions have improved somewhat.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says as the front window of Douglas it's essential that the prom is something for the town to be proud of.
