Public urged to get travel insurance before heading off on summer holidays

An air ambulance service alone can cost upwards of £20,000

The Department of Health are reminding the public of the importance of getting travel insurance before embarking on any summer holidays.

It’s in an event to protect yourself against spiralling health costs in the event you fall ill while away.

If a Manx resident is taken ill whilst travelling overseas they are likely to have to pay for some or all of their medical consultations, medicines and treatments.

The only exception is the UK with which the Isle of Man has a Reciprocal Health Agreement, however expensive medical repatriation has never been included in this.

The Health Minister David Anderson has said, It remains extremely important that people understand the risks they face if they become ill whilst abroad.
