A wildlife charity has warned the public not to approach baby seals following an incident in the south of the Island yesterday.
The Manx Wildlife Trust said a seal pup was touched by a member of the public, causing its mother to flee into the sea and leaving the young animal alone.
The charity said such interference is not acceptable and can result in pups being abandoned or starving.
The trust added this time of year is particularly sensitive for new-born seals and observing them from a distance gives both mothers and pups the best chance of survival.
