A Douglas man who smashed up a pub after being refused service will be sentenced in June.

41-year-old Donal John Tobin, of Marathon Drive, caused £400 worth of damage at the Old Market Inn after taking the hump when a barman wouldn't serve him.

At Douglas Courthouse this week he pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on licensed premises as well as causing damage to property.

The court was told Tobin had been drinking in the pub on the afternoon of January 28th but became "emotional" when the barman refused further service at around 8pm.

When Tobin was refused service in the rear bar of the public house he proceeded to throw a glass - before smashing a number of glasses, a large glass decanter and a window.

Another punter restrained Tobin on the floor and police were called - the large amount of debris meant the pub was forced to close early at 9pm.

In police interview Tobin said he was "embarrassed and ashamed" of his actions - his advocate told the court the incident had happened "in a moment of depression".

Social enquiry reports have been requested before he's sentenced on June 8th - he's been bailed until that date.
