Prospect hit out at government over nursery and library closures

Trade Union Prospect have hit back at the Education and Children Minister's recent remarks over the nursery and library closures.

Public campaigns have now been launched to try and save the two valuable services, with the libraries especially seen as vital link to the elderly, housebound, disabled and least privileged in Manx society.

Negotiations Officer for Prospect, Angela Moffatt, has said the cut backs have a disproportionate impact on women, children and vulnerable adults.

She also highlighted how government have recently spent £100,000 on a new mobile library, branding the decision on a whole as shambolic.

The Island is braced for further major cut backs in light of the current fiscal challenges faced, when the budget is announced in full tomorrow.

Members of the public have set up an online petition to save the library services.

2 Facebook groups have been created to save the libraries including one by trade unions.
