A prisoner accused of seriously injuring a guard by throwing a cup of boiling coffee in his face will appear in court again next month.
Alistair John Cowin, whose address was given as care of the Isle of Man prison, appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 39 year old is accused of causing actual bodily harm at the Jurby facility on June 30, but hasn’t yet entered a plea.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the hearing Cowin had asked for a cup of coffee but when a prison officer opened the hatch to his cell and handed it to him, he threw the scalding liquid over him.
Magistrates said the case was too serious to be heard in a summary court and would have to be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
They remanded Cowin in custody until his next appearance on October 13.
