Prescriptions will no longer be given for over the counter medicines as part of a new policy.
From next week patients with minor conditions will instead be advised which treatments to buy by their GP.
This will primarily affect cheaper medications such as paracetamol, throat lozenges or vitamins.
Anyone using over the counter medication as part of treatment of a more long-term condition will continue to get it on prescription.
