Increased police patrols are in operation in the Union Mills and Strang areas.
It’s after a number of incidents on Tuesday - between 9pm and midnight - where someone attempted to gain entry into insecure properties.
Speculation on social media sites suggests a man was found in someone’s bedroom before being disturbed and fleeing.
Police have not confirmed this but say they are in the process of conducting house to house enquiries.
They’ve appealed for residents to be vigilant and to use basic crime prevention techniques such as locking doors.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Police Headquarters.
