Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft which happened between the middle and end of February.
The thief drilled a hole into the plastic tank and drained off the contents – officers say it appears this was transferred to smaller containers and removed.
Homeowners have been urged to ensure tanks are left secure and if possible alarmed.
Anyone who witnessed what happened has been asked to contact Peel Police Station.
