Police confirm fatality after Bishopscourt crash

Police have confirmed an elderly woman has been killed following yesterday’s serious car collision in the north-west of the Island.

It happened at 3pm outside Bishopscourt Glen on the main Kirk Michael to Ballaugh Road.

Police have not yet revealed the identity of the woman.

The collision involved a blue Honda Jazz car heading towards Ballaugh. It has crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with a stationary red Honda Jazz before coming to rest against a stone wall.

Emergency crews attended and Fire and Rescue officers used cutting equipment to release the three female occupants of the Blue Honda, who were attended to by Paramedics.

They were taken immediately to hospital, where sadly one of the passengers, an elderly lady from Ballaugh, later died. The occupants of the red car were shaken but uninjured.

The road remained closed until shortly after 6pm while police carried out forensic collision investigation at the scene.

Inspector Derek Flint said the other two occupants of the vehicle remain in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses saw either saw the collision or noticed a blue Honda Jazz travelling towards Ballaugh around 3pm.

Anyone with information should contact police headquarters on 631212.
