Manx Care says it's temporarily paused plans to re-open the Martin Ward at Ramsey Cottage Hospital.
The decision's being made because of worrying environmental checks which need further investigation, according to the health service.
These checks on Friday, December 12 were said to show unexpected issues with the environment and air quality in the ward, meaning it could be unsafe for some patients.
The ward had already been closed since early November for improvement works - with patients to be contacted directly about changes.
