A petition to stop development on the Summerland site has been submitted to the Department of Infrastructure.
The leisure complex caught fire on August 2nd, 1973, with 3,000 holidaymakers and locals inside - killing 50 people.
One of those who remembers the tragedy is Tina Brennen who was 19 at the time - she watched the tragedy unfold from the road above.
She set up the petition earlier this year in an effort to halt developers from investing in the area.
