Peel has applied to become an official city under plans to celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee.
It's thought to be the first time that a Crown Dependency town has applied for city status.
Although Peel argues it's already a city because of its cathedral, towns must be granted their city title by the monarch.
However, the western town's claim goes back to the 13th Century, when it was referred to as the "Sodor Cathedral City".
