An Onchan Commissioner wants all new street signs in the village to include Manx wording.
Board member Anthony Allen put the motion forward, saying the language is a vital part of the Island's heritage and identity.
It would apply to all signs being replaced due to damage or age, with Mr Allen saying other local authorities are already doing the same thing.
The proposal will be discussed at the board's next meeting on Monday, October 6.
