Officers praised for work on 'challenging' AG case

The detective in charge of the investigation into the conduct of the Island's attorney general has praised the efforts of his team for dealing with the 'challenging' case.

Yesterday Stephen Harding was acquitted of two charges he’d faced of perjury and committing acts against public justice.

It saw the conclusion of an investigation that had ran nearly four years, in that time Mr Harding had faced trial twice - each time the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

Detective chief inspector Sid Caine says the outcome will be 'most unsatisfactory' to both the complainants and the defendant alike.

However he says officers conducted a thorough and impartial investigation and the heavy burden as to the question of innocence or guilt is not a matter for the constabulary.
