Office of Fair Trading withdraw from Steam Packet price investigation

Number of recent events would have deemed their findings irrelevant

The Office of Fair Trading have said they have pulled out of an investigation into the prices charged by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

The decision was reached as a number of uncontrollable factors like the recent freight competition, removal of an operational vessel and change in ownership and financial structure would have impacted the findings too greatly.

The investigation covered the trading of the company between 2004 and 2009.

The OFT say its clear their findings would have been largely historical and any conclusions and recommendations would potentially no longer be relevant.

The investigation was commenced in late 2009 and invited public opinion through a consultation; the OFT have said they want to thank those who took part.
