Treasury Minister Chris Thomas says the government currently doesn't give any money to private developers who want to update historic buildings.
This week in the House of Keys he was quizzed by Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse about support schemes.
Mr Thomas said a number of government bodies were involved in looking after historic or registered buildings.
But he said the government didn't provide money to private landowners:
