The Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (CURA) has denied a request from Manx Gas to increase its tariffs.
Following further wholesale increases, Manx Gas wrote to the regulator asking for another review as they’re losing ‘significant profit.’
Prices rose by 27.5% for Manx consumers in November, and CURA concluded that another increase would have a ‘disproportionately negative impact on customers.’
They added that higher prices would risk negatively impacting an economy which is still recovering from the pandemic, and undo efforts from the government to ensure businesses can still run during this time.
Therefore, the Authority decided there will be no increase to gas tariffs, and says it’s working to have more detailed price controls in place in early 2022, to ensure tariffs are fair and transparent.
