New home for planning to stop conflict

The responsibility for planning and housing on the Island could be transferred between government departments to avoid potential conflict of interests.

That's if Tynwald approves the Council of Minister's latest plans.

It's looking to move planning and building control from Infrastructure to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

It's because the DOI owns most of government's property - as a result planning applications have to be dealt with outside the department.

The housing division would also be relocated from Health and Social Care to Infrastructure as it already owns over 1,200 public sector homes.

However planning policy is due to stay where it is for strategic purposes.
