New Chief Minister to be appointed next Tuesday

Three MHKs have been nominated to take over the role of Chief Minster for the Isle of Man.

Kate Beecroft, Alf Cannan and Howard Quayle were all put forward by their peers to take up the top job yesterday.

Liberal Vannin leader Beecroft was proposed by fellow party MHKs Lawrie Hooper and Julie Edge - she's never held a ministerial position but feels as party leader it's her responsibility to try and take up the position.

Ayre and Michael MHK Alf Cannan was proposed by Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas and newly elected Garff MHK Martyn Perkins - Cannan has also never held a ministerial position but was a member of the Department of Economic Development during the last administration.

Middle MHK Howard Quayle was nominated by new Douglas North MHK David Ashford and returning Glenfaba and Peel MHK Ray Harmer - Quayle was the Health and Social Care Minster during his first term in government.

The candidates now have two days to put forward their written policy statement to fellow members and the public before the election takes place, at a special sitting of Tynwald, next Tuesday.
