MUA in court over alleged health and safety failings

A court case concerning alleged health and safety failings by the Manx Utilities Authority has been delayed for a month.

Representatives from the MUA appeared in court earlier this week for the next stage of the case.

The authority faces two charges - one for failing to discharge duty and the second for failing to comply with regulations.

Both are alleged to have happened on December 3rd 2012 - the day a 52-year-old employee died whilst carrying out excavation work.

Peel man John Gell was killed after a wall collapsed on him as he was replacing a water pipe.

Both parties in the case applied for a four week adjournment in order to progress proceedings - it will resume on October 14th.
