Education Minister Daphne Caine says giving children from Ballasalla swimming lessons in Douglas saves more than £4,500 a year.
This week in the House of Keys she faced questions about the decision to shift lessons from the southern pool to the National Sports Centre.
Mrs Caine explained a review into swimming lessons last April had found moving Ballasalla school's swimming lessons to Douglas would save £4,685 each year.
And she added pupils would need fewer bus journeys as they learned to swim:
