Motorists warned to take extra care on the roads

Motorists on the island are being warned to drive with care this morning (Monday).

Police said a number of trees came down overnight and some routes remain blocked until they can be safely cleared.

The areas affected include Lezayre Road in Ramsey, the Main Road in Greeba, Glencrutchery Road in Douglas and Sulby Glen.

Police said an emergency road closure has been put in place on Ballanard Road between the Abbeylands Crossroads to Johnny Watterson's lane due to a fallen tree.

An amber weather warning for severe gales and coastal overtopping is in place until 09:00 today (Monday).

The Met Office said winds are expected to ease later this morning.
