Motorists urged to only make essential journeys

People are being urged to brace themselves for potential structural damage and flooding as the Island is battered by storm force winds.

A red weather warning has been issued with severe gales and heavy rain expected to last until Sunday.
 
Gusts of up to 85 miles per hour are expected to cause disruption to travel as well as damage to trees and some buildings.
