Minister to ask for Tynwald approval on money already spent

Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne

Tynwald will today (Tuesday) be asked to approve a spend of £405,000 on repair work to the cliff face at Ballure.

DEFA Minister Phil Gawne will ask for the money – despite already spending over £300,000 of it last year, before it had been signed off. 

Due to coastal erosion in the area a scheme had been drawn up to resolve the problem however the cliff unexpectedly collapsed in November last year and a decision was taken to proceed with the work without gaining Tynwald approval. 

Speaking to 3FM, Mr Gawne, who has publically apologised, said the work, which was accounted for in the Budget, was essential:
