Agriculture Minister Clare Barber says a former MHK was appointed to the board of the Island's meat plant because the company urgently needed two directors.
In the House of Keys this week, Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse asked her how former Middle MHK Bill Shimmin was given a job on the board of Isle of Man Meats.
In her reply, Mrs Barber said usually the posts would go through a full open recruitment process but Isle of Man Meats urgently asked for two new board members - one for finance and one for marketing.
She added that added urgency to the hunt for candidates:
