Minister: I'll put inmates to work

Prisoners in the Isle of Man could soon be given significant amounts of work and community service if the Home Affairs Minister gets his way.

Speaking to 3FM, Juan Watterson said he’s working closely with the Department of Infrastructure and private sector companies to arrange numerous jobs.

He’s said he’s open to offers from more companies to come forward and suggest ideas.

Mr Watterson said that prison is a "mixture of punishment and rehabilitation...we don’t want them sitting around for 23 hours a day with nothing to do” (see audio).
