Minister Earnshaw Asked About If Island has Racism Problem
In today’s sitting of Tynwald the Lord Bishop Reverend Robert Paterson asked the Minister for Home Affairs if his department planned to undertake research into race relations and multiculturalism on the Island.
The question came about following the high-profile Facebook group opposing a mosque on the Island and some of the comments made by local residents.
Minister Earnshaw said that the Isle of Man is a tolerant and inclusive society, and the vast majority of the population do not express racist tendencies.
He said whereas his department aren’t carrying out any research the Constabulary and other agencies do work with minority groups.
