Health and Social Care Minister Kate Beecroft says she doesn't know how much of the meat served by government caterers is from the Isle of Man.
This week in the House of Keys she faced questions on the topic from Garff MHK Daphne Caine.
Mrs Beecroft said the government uses two butchers who supply Manx meat, but EU rules prevent specifying where meat should be from in contracts.
She said she simply couldn't say how much red meat is from the Island:
