MHK to query use of overseas consultants for swimming pools review

Why have off-Island consultants been used to conduct the review of swimming pools?

MHK for Arbory, Castletown and Malew Tim Glover will ask Education Minister Julie Edge in Tynwald next week.

It comes following the announcement the DECS will carry out a review led by UK-based consultants Knight, Kavanagh & Page later this month.

Currently, the southern swimming pool is facing an uncertain future - with its board saying without 'support and leadership' there is a real risk the pool will have to close.

The pool's board says because of pandemic closures, maintenance and increases in fuel costs, it's facing major financial difficulty

Meanwhile, its cafe is set to close due to financial losses, resulting in a number of job losses.

The review will include regional pools in Castletown, Peel and Ramsey - with Mr Glover wanting to know why local consultants aren't being used.
