"Disappointing" - that's the response from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson following a heavy debate on assisted suicide yesterday.
MHKs voted against the proposed legalisation law by 17 to 5 in the House of Keys.
The subject has once again sparked public interest following the conclusion of an inquest into the death of a Peel woman last year - she committed suicide after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Mr Watterson says legislators need to stop hitting a stalemate and take steps into the future:
