A Ramsey MHK has backed decriminalising medical cannabis for Island patients.
Dr Alex Allinson took to Twitter this week after Canada voted to legalise the drug for recreational and medical use.
He says criminals are benefitting from the drug's prohibition and is calling for a new policy on its use.
In particular, he says the Island needs a well-regulated market to supply cannabis for medical reasons, before possibly decriminalising the class B substance further.
For too long prohibition has benefited criminals. We need to put safety first and have a well regulated market to supply medicinal cannabis to those who will benefit and then look further towards harm reduction. https://t.co/j8CFHwlvTe
