 
                            Police say they handed out 18 fixed penalty notices yesterday as a Manx Grand Prix road safety operation continues.
The on-the-spot fines were given for speeding and using a mobile phone, and officers say they also issued six vehicle defect rectification notices for drivers to sort out relatively minor issues.
The Roads Policing Unit says the operation means 99 per cent of people can use the roads safely.
And in a Facebook post it says if you're in the remaining one per cent you should keep checking your mirrors because your luck will run out.
