Douglas Council is "strongly recommending" the use of face masks at public counters.
In addition it is reminding people to use the hand sanitisers provided.
The statement comes after the Manx government changed its advice last week and announced that islanders are now being advised to wear face masks in crowded and enclosed places.
Government advice on face coverings is due to be reviewed at the end of August.
