Customers raised concerns that they were being treated unfairly by some companies including Postal Gold who are based in Douglas.
It was found that some businesses sent consumers a payment, and if this was not rejected and returned within certain time, their jewellery was melted down.
Customers will now have the option of getting a quote or be able to return their payment.
The other firms forced to change their ways as a result of the investigation are Manchester-based CashMyGold and London-based Cash4Gold.
