A 44 year old man who collapsed and died on the pavement outside his house following a fight in February last year had an underlying heart condition and was not unlawfully killed.
Coroner of Inquests John Needham delivered his verdict on the case at Douglas Courthouse last week.
The court heard that Carl Mark Green, who was a baggage handler at Ronaldsway, was involved in an altercation with his daughter’s boyfriend Ryan Oakey on Wesley Terrace on February 16th.
During the scuffle both men had thrown punches but there was no physical injury caused to Mr Green as a result.
After leaving the scene Mr Green complained of pain before collapsing and dying outside his house.
It was later found that he was suffering from severe coronary problems with narrowing of all three major arteries.
Mr Needham said he was satisfied that the events on that day did contribute to Mr Green’s death but because no physical injury was sustained he couldn’t record a verdict of unlawful killing.
He added that Mr Green’s cause of death was myocardial ischemia with sufferers liable to sudden and unexpected collapse and death at any time.
Mr Oakey was subsequently given 16 months in prison for two counts of affray and one for making threats to kill.
