A Douglas man has been spared jail after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to two dogs belonging to his ex-girlfriend.
24-year-old Cyrus Mendoza Tan, of Albert Street, blamed his mental health issues for failing to look after the Papillion dogs which both died as a result of his actions.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Tan's advocate said his client made the 'wrong decisions' and was 'truly upset' by what happened in September and November last year.
The court heard Tan had left one of the dogs in a bath unsupervised whilst he prepared for a job interview - it died as a result of complications from drowning.
On another occasion Tan failed to get veterinary treatment for the other dog after a cabinet fell on it - it died after suffering severe trauma.
Tan had also admitted to offences of provoking behaviour, damaging property and possessing cannabis from December 14th.
Imposing an 18-week suspended prison sentence Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also banned Tan from keeping dogs for five years - he must also pay compensation and costs.
