A man who left the Island for more than two years after assaulting his ex-girlfriend has been jailed.
Darren James Carnochan of St Paul's Square in Ramsey appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 42 year old admitted assaulting the woman on September 1, 2020.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the hearing Carnochan had followed his terrified ex-girlfriend through Peel in the early hours of the morning before confronting her on Lake Lane.
He slapped her to the ground and strangled her until a passer-by intervened and he made off.
Carnochan was arrested and charged but left the Island and failed to attend court until he voluntarily handed himself into police in January.
However, he breached his bail in March after failing to appear before the court again.
Mrs Hughes told him his failure to comply with court orders meant the only realistic sentence was a jail term.
She sent him to prison for four months.
